Horizon structures | atglen, PA
During the Summer of 2024, I worked as a Graphic Design Intern for Horizon Structures, located in Atglen, PA. Horizon Structures is a family-owned company specializing in Amish-built prefabricated structures. Horizon Structures is one of the family-owned businesses, the others include Stoltzfus Structures, Zook Cabins, and 12 Point Hunting Blinds. I was able to create material for each of these companies.
Horizon Structures' focus is horse barns, dog kennels, greenhouses, and chicken coops. I worked with the Marketing team to create and edit social media videos, re-design their YouTube channel, update the website, edit product images, and promote their company through various digital and print materials.
YouTube Revamp
Both Horizon and Stoltzfus Structures needed an up-to date redesign to their video thumbnails. Each playlist was given its own style, a consistent color scheme and aligned with each brand.
Event Promotion Materials
Horizon structures is involved in the Equine Affair every year, where they promote several horse barns. I created a flyer to promote one of our popular styles of horse barns, while the e-blast focuses on one of the structures brought to the event.
Event Promotion Materials
I designed and ordered new entryway signage for our main location. These signs promoted the structures Stoltzfus Structures and Horizon Structures offered. Each company will have one side of the sign, so each will get equal promotion.
Company Promotion Materials
My first task during my internship was to design and order Pizza Boxes that held our two company logos and a QR code that took the customer to our website and gave them a discount when they made a purchase. We partnered with Pizza Box (Gap, PA) to distribute our pizza boxes and included their company logo/information in the overall design.
In-Stock Images
Editing images using Photoshop was a large task I had at Horizon Structures. This involved using Generative AI to place the structure in a more attractive area rather than the company lot the photo was taken.
Social Media Videos
I worked with our social media content creator to create short videos for Instagram, where I was able to photograph, video, and edit a promotional product. I learned the best practices for social media videos, including how long videos should be, how important captions are, the correct style of music, whether voiceovers are necessary, and more.
I am very appreciative of this intern position because it allowed me to experiment with several types of promotional items, including printed materials for events, social media, product videos, and using WordPress to update their website. I was also able to learn how a Marketing team operates and how to account for budget, time, and resources for company events and promotions. During photo and video shoots, I connected with our customers and explain the company mission while hearing their thoughts about the structure they purchased.
